Valerie Bailey, Director

My name is Valerie Bailey and I am the Director of School Age Connections. I graduated from Marshall University in 2008 with a BA in English Education. I worked as a substitute teacher in Cabell County for 2 years after receiving my degree and then was hired by River Valley as a nutrition specialist at Enterprise. I held that position with River Valley for 2 years before being hired in this position.

The School Age Connections program strives to keep children engaged physically and intellectually, by identifying their specific needs and interests and providing enriching activities and experiences. We encourage children to participate in group activities to promote social skills, but will also support them in self-choosing activities that foster a sense of independence and cultivate intrinsically-motivated learning. I believe in educating the whole child - academically, physically, socially, and emotionally.

Lena Baker

My name is Lena Baker and I'm a Jersey Girl, born and raised. I grew up in a little city outside of Atlantic City called Ventnor. I decided my senior year of high school that I wanted to venture out of New Jersey which is how I ended up attending West Virginia University, where I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. I had the amazing opportunity to work with children through two internships. My professional experience was eye opening. I worked mainly with children who had autism, ranging from ages 5-18. Through these experiences, I was able to learn the word "patience, " and essentially master it. Working with children teaches me something new every day. I enjoy being a part of the change in this generation of children and I hope to continue to be a postivie asset in the field of psychology as I continue to work toward my education and further degrees.
